About
Dear readers, welcome to my blog, which focuses on education and science in the United States. Here I talk about how education is structured domestically for residents and immigrants. In my articles you will also learn about the importance and development of science.
Many writers have noted that pragmatism is a central feature of the American character, whether this is to be attributed to the mindset of emigrants to the New World or to the conditions of life they found and developed there. And just as pragmatism was the dominant philosophy taught in universities, so in pedagogy everything was subordinated to immediate and practical ends.
In America, the battle to incorporate science into the curriculum was easily won. Money for laboratories was lavishly allocated-they were always more available for building buildings than for the people who taught in them-and the visible successes of modern science gave it great prestige as an academic subject. The position of the scholar in universities is so greatly envied that his colleagues in other departments are tempted to call their subjects sciences and themselves scientists.
